Misfit Aid is a not-for-profit organisation that exists to design, implement and resource aid and development projects in communities around the world. Working primarily in the areas of disaster relief and community empowerment, we establish partnerships with socially conscious charities and organisations that assist communities affected by poverty, disaster or a humanitarian crisis.
In line with our mission, we engage individuals from the Australian community to participate in short-term volunteer project teams that travel to affected areas to facilitate development activities that benefit communities and families. Teams may engage in building homes for displaced families, establishing or restoring community infrastructure such as community centres, business spaces and amenities blocks, creating improved access to clean water supply or transport or facilitating microfinance programs and other empowerment initiatives that addresses the needs of community members. All activities are implemented in collaboration with local partners and the communities.
Since it’s founding in 2010, Misfit Aid has sent volunteer teams to Chile, Mexico, Samoa and Fiji, with volunteers being builders, carpenters, business owners and managers and others with simply a passion to help out. For details and information about these trips and our ongoing activities, check out our blog www.misfitaid.tumblr.com
